Double Award Win for International Business that began as a Hobby

FOUNDER and creative director of the Bazaar Group Jayne Dolder scooped two awards at the North East Women into the Network Awards on Friday night, including the top accolade.

Both the Creative Business Award and the flagship award, the Susan Dobson Award for Entrepreneurship, were presented to Jayne Dolder, who had entered the regional entrepreneurial awards for the first time.

The Bazaar Group grew out of a hobby, when Jayne was hand-sewing and selling bean bags from her garage at home ten years ago. From starting out as a one-woman band operation, never seeking outside investment and growing 20% year-on-year the Bazaar Group is now a specialist in design, manufacture and retail of soft furnishings that employs over 40 people.

Bazaar Group managing director and Jayne’s husband Mark Dolder said: “Friday night was emotional and special as it recognised the achievement of our founder Jayne, who without relevant qualifications, but an amazing amount of hard work and passion as well as the support of her family, took a hobby making bean bags to become Europe’s leading seller of bean bags.

“Jayne’s natural creative flair has always helped drive a culture of continuous innovation, goal setting and growth. This was acknowledged with recent honours such as winning the Small Business Award at the North East Business Awards 2014, making the shortlist for the national British Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award 2014 and receiving the Mother and Baby Silver Award for Best Nursery Product 2015. The WIN Awards were the perfect way to honour Jayne’s personal achievement in taking her passion and turning it into a scalable business and notable employer for the North East.”

Bazaar Group founder and creative director Jayne said: “Mark and I have a great team behind us; everyone from our incredible senior management team to our hard working operational team are people that we are very proud to work with. This awards process has been fantastic at helping us reflect on what we have achieved as a team and the awards win will give us the motivation to continue on with our ambitious future plans.

“From doing everything alone, working 17 hour days in a garage, we are now in a state of the art premises and are able to recruit the best commercial talent in the UK. We are currently working with Nigel Wright on the recruitment of an experienced Brand Manager and Design and Development Manager capable of taking the business forward to the next stage of growth.

“The WIN Awards were fantastic for showing the breadth of career opportunities here in the region, which will no doubt have inspired the up and coming talented men and women in our business community.  That is why I’m so proud to have won the two awards and be part of this important event.”
