As head of design and development at British soft furnishings brand & design house Icon, Allison Chatten knows just what will be in vogue for the home and garden this coming year.

Here Allison explains the top interior trend picks for spring-summer 2017, including how to use Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Greenery.

Daydreams

“The start of spring brings the beautiful awakening of nature; with blossoms in full bloom and wildlife bouncing with energy. Stirring our senses with the hazy memories of carefree summers the Daydreams trend tempts a youthful soul.

The colour palate of this trend is rooted in dusky pinks and sky blues, amped up with punches of buttermilk yellow and complementary soft green, teal and nudes. Stylistically, prints either take a deconstructed, geometric direction with loose repeats that feel light and weightless, or wild and whimsical meadow florals let us drift off into a dream.”

Blok Party

“With spring and summer comes the need to feel social and expressive once again. No longer are we hibernating indoors with muted lighting and cups of hot chocolate, but feeling ready for the warmth and vibrancy of joy-filled gatherings. The Blok Party trend captures the essence of this totally spring-summer vibe.

Bold and striking colour block combinations of aqua blue and amethyst are set off with graphic textures for an urban appeal. Outlines in black and white give this trend its modern-retro feel.”

Stripe Action

“Stepping out of the darkness and into a season full of life is best represented with an abundance of colour and pattern, which is where the dramatic Stripe Action print and pattern trend comes into play.

Pair the Blok Party trend with stripes in every form for a truly contemporary look. Bold and contrasting, abstract and novel, oversized and miniature; the mixture is key as stripes take centre stage in 2017. In this pattern direction is playful, it depicts a sense of energy reflected by the seasonal change, with chevrons, zigzags, straight and broken lines.”

Opulent Jungle

“As the days get longer, those that revelled in the warm mustard & deep teal hues of the autumn are drawn to the natural beauty of the garden. We all long for an Indian summer to hold on to our new-found outdoor lifestyle for as long as possible. With the Opulent Jungle trend you can bring a touch of tropical paradise closer to home.

Banana leaf prints and other jungle foliage is a staple of this trend, in olive hues and softened khakis for a sophisticated look. Here is where Pantone’s 2017 Colour, Greenery, plays a big part. Mixed with ochre shades, metallic copper and oak and walnut wood, this look is soothing with a touch of luxury, perfect for hot summer days outdoors, and bringing a sense of the tropics indoors.”
